Black Breath, Sandrider, Occult SS and Nite Nurse

By Jeffery McNulty

Some pretty amazing metal bands have come from Seattle into national attention: The Accused, Metal Church, Melvins, some true-metal folks might include Queensryche (no) or Nevermore (possibly). To this pantheon I humbly submit Black Breath. Originally from Bellingham and led by drummer Jamie and singer Neil through an evolving list of amazing musicians from other killer bands in the northwest, Black Breath’s current lineup is phenomenal.

The inevitable Entombed comparisons aside, Black Breath rules in their own right.  They have the uncanny ability to rock the heavy until your neck is sore then burst into a frenzy of speed/death metal formerly only heard in Florida or across the pond. I remember when they didn’t have hair and I liked them a lot but they have become one of my favorite metal bands in Seattle… ever. To me, these guys are one of those local bands that EVERYBODY should see once even if they are too scared to get back in the mosh pit.

I’ve written a lot about Sandrider lately so I’ll just say I hope these dudes get a chance to throw a couple new songs into the set cause I knows they will be brilliant! They are led up by local ass-kickers Occult SS and PDX crust-mongers Nite Nurse.

Cheers! And see ya there!
