Friday October 10th

Victory Lounge

Preview by Jeffery McNulty

This Friday the windows of the Victory Lounge are quite possibly going to be blown out onto the street. I’ve seen a lot of heavy hitters at that little club but Adam Superfan is bringing us two of Arizona’s heaviest: Godhunter and Sorxe.

As most of you know AZ has some of the worst politics in American history right now and Godhunter is definitely pissed off about it. And outspoken too.  Their lyrics are aggressive but understandable, and their songs are often bracketed by vocal samples that illustrate their point. Musically they crush, their singer, Charlie Touseull has one of the toughest voices I’ve heard in a while, surrounded by heavy riffage reminiscent, but not derivative of, mid-career Neurosis. Their split with Secrets of the Sky has been on rotation in my headphones for the last couple months.

Touring alongside them is Phoenix’s Sorxe, a kind of underground metal super-group featuring members of Graves at Sea and many other Phoenix bands. Their genre-spanning music fits in well with the headliners Black Queen.

Black Queen has been one of my favorite local metal bands for years and they have a new record they just finished mixing that should be coming out soon. With Billy Anderson behind the board the album should accurately capture the power of their live shows.

I’d suggest showing up early and staying late!
