If you have never seen or heard High on Fire you are obviously not into heavy rock. Or metal. Or music in general. I kid, but seriously, Matt Pike and friends have been killing it for so long I almost forgot about Sleep until they decided to get back together for a minute. Still kidding. I truly love this band, they crush! You should buy everything they’ve ever recorded… then go to this show. Apparently these dudes are like Krampus, they only come to town in December.

I guess the band I’m most excited to see is Norway’s Kvelertak. (Try saying that 5 times fast!) This band is the kind of metal all the Norwegian kids are into; apparently when they put out their first full length in 2010 it went gold in their own home country. You can’t pin them down genre wise but they kick all sorts of butt whatever they do. With 6 dudes in the band, I’m sure their stage show will be intense. Kvelertak are poised to be the next Deafheaven, see them before they blow up in the states.

And if that’s not enough, they are touring with Windhand, the newest heavy band from Richmond, VA. I don’t know what’s in the water down there in that part of the country but the unholy southern cross of Richland, Savanna, Atlanta and New Orleans has been spawning killer sludge for decades now and Windhand is no exception. I first heard them on a split with Cough and I really like their singer’s style.  Buy their new record, Soma, from them this Sunday at El Corazon.
