KEY OF SOLOMON SHOW PREVIEW

There are some bands in this town doing some incredible things. Incredible things that are going largely unnoticed. Two of these bands have been noticed by yours truly, and will be playing on Thursday the 6th at U District’s Rat and Raven.

Key of Solomon are recent transplants to Seattle from our dear neighbor to the south, Portland. Founding guitarists Brett Walker and John Lund have been successful in being at pretty much every great heavy show in Seattle since they got here, and also playing some amazing heavy shows themselves. It’s hard to imagine this band once relied on a drum machine for their live performance as their current lineup sounds and feels incredibly organic and is generally just impressive as hell. Dual guitar wailing and fast-paced intense rhythms are abound in this high energy progressive metal act. Additionally, while they claim to be searching for a vocalist, their current instrumental configuration is extremely satisfying.

Take the high energy prog styling’s Key of Solomon and add an extra dash of brutality with a pinch of post-metal atmospherics and you’ve got yourself the blistering whirlwind of shred that is Guns of Barisal. Guns of Barisal are seriously a force to be reckoned with. Make no mistake, your face will be melted clean off and you will walk away with a stabbing high pitched ringing in your ears. But in the end, you will know deep down in your cold black heart, it was worth it.
