Heavy Metal and roller skating were made for each other. Don’t believe me? Take a second to Google image search “Judas Priest on Roller Skates.” Still not convinced? Fine, try “Van Halen on Roller Skates.” Told you so. But I didn’t have to tell that to husband and wife Southgate Roller Rink owners Josh Rhoads and Erin Venables. They’ve been approached to do live shows at their White Center roller rink in the past, but they’ve always declined—until now. In setting up the bill for this first show at the rink, Josh (who regularly throws The Gits, Murder City Devils, and Helms Alee on the sound system to break up the usual skating rink classics) told me “I knew it had to be something I liked, which meant loud and heavy, in order for me to be able to commit to a live show.”

Loud and heavy it will be. Saturday night, June 14th, the birthplace of the Rat City Rollergirls, Southgate Roller Rink, will provide the rock while you roll. Playing right out on the skating floor will be four of Seattle’s heaviest, including Grackles, Witch Ripper, Audrey Horne (featuring recently defunct Monogamy Party bassist extraordinaire Yos-wa), and Big Trughk. If roller skating in the pit’s not enough for you, here’s a tip: the rink’s got a bar in it too.

Heavy local music. Roller skating. Beer. What could possibly go wrong?

Saturday, June 14, 2014 — 9:00 PM — $10 (includes skate rental)
