Saturday February 22nd, another weekend night in Seattle packed with excellent live music. In particular, two shows stand out and demand attention, and a difficult choice must be made.
At the Black Lodge, the mind-melting sonic bombardment of Thrones will be making an appearance alongside Portland’s experimental drumming duo Hot Victory and local doomgazers He Whose Ox Is Gored. The solo project of the legendary Joe Preston (Earth, The Melvins, High on Fire), Thrones summons a mesmerizing wall of avant-garde noise-doom that will leave eardrums throbbing, crushed by wave after wave of massive, fuzzed out drones. Show up early and don’t miss He Whose Ox Is Gored, whose synth-laced stoney post-hardcore will surely leave all witnesses anxiously awaiting their upcoming full length album.
Down the street at El Corazon, heavy metal pioneers Pentagram will be making a stop on their US tour with Radio Moscow and Kings Destroy. Pentagram have been spreading doom since 1971, and after decades of splitting up and reforming, they’re back on the road with a new album planned for early this year. Psychedelic shredders Lesbian and bluesy stoner rockers Ancient Warlocks will be providing local support, two of the strongest heavy hitters in the Seattle heavy music scene, definitely not to be missed.
Choose wisely, both of these shows will surely kill. Or, since they are just a couple blocks away from each other, go see both!
Thrones, Hot Victory, and He Whose Ox Is Gored kicks off at 9pm at the Black Lodge, and Pentagram, Radio Moscow, Kings Destroy, Lesbian, and Ancient Warlocks at El Corazon opens their doors at 7:30.
