Whores-Clean Review

What went through my head the first time I heard Whores: “Is this some unholy bastard child of early Clutch and KARP?” In a way, that first impression was selling them short. Atlanta GA’s Whores are uncompromisingly heavy, pure and simple. I mean in every damn thing they do. With a name like that they better be! I liked them instantly.

Their first release ‘Ruiner’ was my favorite record for months and I can tell you this new one is gonna be on infinite repeat in my headphones for a while to come. Recorded in May 2013 by Ryan Boesch  (Melvins, Helmet, Tomahawk, Fu Manchu) at Parhelion Recording Studios in Atlanta, GA, ‘Clean’ has an ironically dirty sound; not because of the production which is top notch, but because it’s obvious on first listen that these dudes are on eleven even in the studio. Like their freshman release this record is short and sweet so I don’t have to pick which one of the six songs is my favorite. If pressed I’d have to go with ‘I Am Not a Goal-Oriented Person’ as it showcases everything they can do. Plus, I love the lyrics.

This band is so good they almost make me want to move to Atlanta so I could see them over and over and I’d be in the front row every time. (Or maybe they’d relocate to Seattle and we could be friends and claim them for our own? Fat chance, they’d move to Portland ha ha!) Hopefully these guys will make it out to Seattle soon. You know where you’ll find me.

Brutal Panda has done it again. These guys really know their heavy, with releases from bands like Atlas Moth, Fight Amp and Kowloon Walled City you know what I’m tellin ya is true! Do your ears a favor and buy this record.
