Saturday November 7th brings an epic evening of some of the finest heavy music around both nationally and locally to the wonderfully revived Funhouse Lounge. Reunited doom champions Spirit Caravan, fronted by the legendary Scott ‘Wino’ Weinrich (The Obsessed, Saint Vitus), will be burning through the great Pacific Northwest, bringing along Boston’s fearless stoner rock wizards Elder.
This tour package almost feels like a perfect combination of classic and modern doom / stoner rock. Spirit Caravan carry a lot of weight, drudging up old school doom influences like Black Sabbath, Pentagram, or Candlemass. Unstoppable riffs, shredding guitar solos, and grooved out jams are abound. Elder on the other hand, particularly with their newest offering Lore, bring a slightly more experimental and modernized sound to the palette. The riffs show a bit more of a progressive rock influence and song structures are dynamic and sprawling. Elder captures many of the staple ideas of doom / stoner metal, but sound like they’ve also got some influence from newer bands like Mastodon, The Sword, or Baroness. One thing that really brings these two bands together though is the touch of bluesy, southern rock that is prevalent in their sound, as well as both being absolutely amazing music to burn one to.
Opening the show will be Washington natives Mos Generator and Ex-Gods, the former of which has shared their definitive heavy rock style in Europe on tour with Saint Vitus, while the latter brings a more aggressive, punkish style to the table. Both of these local openers are definitely worth seeing on their own, so be sure to arrive on time.
Show is at the Funhouse Lounge attached to El Corazon, 8pm doors and $15 at the door. Sorry kids, 21+ only.
