Brian’s Weekend Preview

This weekend, do not allow laziness and apathy to ruin your potential for getting your mind blown by deafening badass music. There’s some really great shows available to you, here’s a quick breakdown.
Friday Jan 25th
One of my very favorite venues in this fair city, the Black Lodge, is in need of your support! To entice you to donate your hard earned dollars, the Lodge is hosting a benefit show that will be sure to get your blood pumping. Opening the evening will be drum and bass duo The Great Goddamn. Featuring He Whose Ox Is Gored’s Brian McClelland on drums, The Great Goddamn are a newer band hitting the Seattle scene, and definitely worth checking out. Fans of high energy, riffy punk/metal will not be disappointed. Big Trughk will be up next, and although I’ve never heard them before, considering they feature members of Thac0 and Don Peyote, I’m sure it will be seriously heavy. Local racket makers Monogamy Party will be headlining the event, whose brash and audacious brand of noise-punk will be a perfect end to the night. Also worth mentioning, at the Victory Lounge will be Same-Sex Dictator, Drunk Dad, Spacebag, and Cerebral Cortez, another extremely solid bill.

Saturday Jan 26th
Another night filled with amazing heavy music, Saturday the Highline will be hosting bands from several locations along the west coast. Hailing from Chico, CA, epic sludge metal outfit Cold Blue Mountain will be invading the Highline on Saturday night. Expect to be pummeled by huge riffs and heavy doom. Portland’s Habits will be joining the bill, adding a distinctly harder edge to the night. Providing local support will be the always impressive Enemy Camp, whose explosive energy will certainly be upping the ante on this already powerful lineup. Having written about them a couple times already, suffice it to say this band is worth your time. Starting the show will be local psychedelic sludge punk group, Aurora Bridge. Their stoney, lo-fi demos have grabbed my attention, and I’m looking forward to checking it out in a live setting.
