Portland based underground label Eolian Empire is releasing a cassette and digital compilation May 1st featuring 26 different bands and tracks from all walks of heavy music. Featuring songs from some of Portland’s best, the 26 track cassette is a bold statement on underground music coming out of Portland. For the record, that’s 99 minutes of music. Tracks from the Seattle label Good to Die’s roster (Rabbits and Gaytheist) are featured, as well as tracks from Lord Dying, Norska, Drunk Dad, Towers, Diesto, Honduran, Prizehog, Hot Victory, and many, many more. We were recently offered a chance to premiere one of the tracks, and while the decision was difficult to pick just one, we are happy to premiere the track by one of our favorite bands from the Portland area, Norska.
When asked about participating in the compilation, Norska guitarist/vocalist Jim Lowder said, “We were honored to be asked to record something for the ‘Keep Our Heads’ tape comp. The compilation is absolutely loaded with killer music by a bunch of good folks, so it’s pretty incredible to be a part of something like this.” This track absolutely destroys, and is a good indicator that much more heavy goodness will be coming out of the Norska camp very soon. “Eostre is about the spring season charging in and challenging winter. For me, it’s a sort of love-letter to the forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Spring has always represented and embodied a strong feminine force to me, so I wanted to acknowledge that. The timing for the release was right with regard to the subject matter, so we were happy to get it out there rather than waiting for a new full-length release down the road” Lowder says.
Only 500 copies of this monster are available, and will ship with a beer koozie for the first run, for keeping your hands cold while enjoying a tasty beverage of your choosing while listening. Digital downloads will also be included.
